Exmouth is a place you just need to visit. It is so different to what I expected when we first rocked up. I had no idea it had a USA vibe, or was really modern in places, mixed with a unique style I haven’t seen before.
Everyone heads to Exmouth as the gateway to the Ningaloo Reef, which is amazing, but I think Exmouth needs at least a few days to really explore this really cool town.
We’ve stayed in Exmouth for a few weeks at a time, camped at Ningaloo’s Cape Range, and explored every part of Exmouth. And we’ll be coming back as soon as we can!

7 Best Places to Stay in Exmouth
Our biggest tip before we dive in: Book as soon as you know you’re going to Exmouth. For peak season (April to October), you need to book 6, or even 12, months in advance. Don’t leave this to the last minute!
Also, it’s important to remember that most accommodation is in Exmouth town itself. If you want to visit Ningaloo Reef, then I recommend booking an inclusive tour that picks you up from Exmouth, or staying at Sal Salis Ningaloo Reef, which is right in the heart of adventure!
Luxury Accommodation
1. Sal Salis Ningaloo Reef
For a truly unforgettable, ‘once-in-a-lifetime’ experience, Sal Salis is in a league of its own. These 15 luxury eco-tents are nestled in the dunes of Cape Range National Park, just steps from the reef.
It’s all-inclusive (gourmet meals, drinks, guided activities) and offers pure, off-grid luxury. It is a splurge, but it’s the definition of a bucket-list stay in a bucket-list location!

2. Mantarays Ningaloo Beach Resort
If you’re looking for that dream WA holiday, this is it. Mantarays is the only resort located right on Sunrise Beach. You’ll get ocean or marina views from your own private balcony.
It’s the absolute peak of Exmouth luxury, with a beautiful infinity pool, and the excellent Mantaray’s Restaurant on-site. If you book the apartments or villas, you’ll also get a 2 person spa bath.

3. Exmouth Escape Resort
Exmouth Excape Resort is easily one of the most popular places in town, especially for families and groups. We love that the resort is built around a huge central pool (plus a wading pool for toddlers) and offers modern, self-contained villas with one, two, or three bedrooms.
Having the fantastic Whalers Restaurant on-site is a massive bonus for an easy dinner.

Best Family Accommodation
4. RAC Exmouth Cape Holiday Park
Don’t let the ‘Holiday Park’ name fool you, it’s not just for caravans. The RAC Exmouth Cape Holiday Park has some of the newest and best family-friendly accommodation in town, from studio cabins to spacious two-bedroom villas.
The facilities are amazing for kids, with a big pool, playground, and even an outdoor cinema in peak season.

5. Ningaloo Caravan and Holiday Resort
Another major holiday park in town, Ningaloo Caravan and Holiday Resort, is another fantastic, family-friendly option we’d recommend. Our kids loved the pool, and the playground!
It has two great pools, a kids’ playground, and a huge range of cabins and villas, all set amongst tropical gardens.
It’s a reliable, comfortable, and well-located base for exploring. The restaurant has delicious food and drinks.

Budget Friendly
6. Potshot Hotel Resort
An Exmouth icon! We love the ‘Potty’, it’s the classic Exmouth pub and resort rolled into one.
It offers a huge range of accommodation, from simple motel rooms to two-bedroom, self-contained apartments. It’s fantastic value, and we loved the central location (you can walk to the shops and Whalebone Brewery – trust us, it’s worth it!).

7. Ningaloo Coral Bay – Bayview
While this accommodation is in Coral Bay, Ningaloo Coral Bay is a great place to stop if you’re having trouble finding accommodation on the dates you’re after in Exmouth.

Is it Worth Staying in Exmouth?
For sure!
In our opinion, Exmouth is definitely worth the trip. The town is fantastic, there is so much to see and on the other side of the range you have one of the best snorkelling spots we’ve ever seen! How Many Days is Enough in Exmouth?
This is a question we get all the time, and our answer is always: “Longer than you think!”
Many people only book for 3-4 days and leave wishing they had more.
We recommend a minimum of 5 to 7 days. This gives you enough time to do a major boat tour (like a whale shark swim, see our Whale Shark Tours Exmouth guide for picking an operator), have a couple of full days to explore Cape Range National Park, and have a ‘rest’ day in town without feeling rushed.
