If you’ve heard Perth is “isolated,” it’s time to reconsider. We see it as a wonderfully kept secret where beautiful nature and fantastic weather converge. It’s a city with its own laid-back rhythm and endless opportunities for adventure.

I’ve lived in Perth, and as a family of four we’ve visited more times than we can count. We’ve certainly found our go-to spots.

This guide is our way of helping you organise an incredible trip, with a unique itinerary that starts you off with a laid-back, coastal feel.

Day 1: Port City Charm & Ocean Sunsets

Morning

We’ll begin our journey in Fremantle! If your visit falls on a weekend (Friday-Sunday), make a beeline for the lively Fremantle Markets. Enjoy a coffee as you wander past stalls brimming with local crafts, fresh produce, and tasty treats. Following that, step back into history with a fascinating tour of the historic Fremantle Prison, a UNESCO World Heritage site.

Afternoon

This afternoon is for getting lost in Fremantle’s delightful streets. Stop by the Little Creatures Brewery for a meal and to sample their beers. Afterwards, head across the road to the Fremantle Tourist Wheel for a different view of the city.

Evening

As evening approaches, catch a train or take a short drive up the coast to Cottesloe Beach. The perfect end to your first day involves grabbing some classic fish and chips and witnessing the stunning sunset over the Indian Ocean.

Day 2: Island Adventures & City Lights

Full Day

Get ready for a memorable day on Rottnest Island! This car-free paradise is renowned for the quokka, often called the world’s happiest animal. The ideal way to explore is by booking a ferry and renting a bike to pedal between the island’s 63 beautiful beaches and hidden coves.

Evening

After returning to the mainland, head over to Elizabeth Quay on the Perth waterfront. The area comes alive at night with a vibrant energy. Have dinner at one of the excellent restaurants and enjoy a stroll across the bridge to take in the dazzling city skyline.

Day 3: Park Views & Local Vibes

Morning

Start your day at the magnificent Kings Park & Botanic Garden, one of the largest inner-city parks globally! Afternoon

Want to see Perth like a local? Skip the major shopping centers and head to Leederville. This chic neighborhood is packed with personality. Explore the eclectic boutiques and record stores on Oxford Street, then recharge with a coffee at one of its many fantastic cafes.

Evening

For your final dinner, immerse yourself in the lively buzz of Northbridge. It’s Perth’s top destination for nightlife and offers some of the best and most varied cuisine in the city. Whether you’re craving authentic Italian or modern Asian fusion, you’ll discover something to satisfy your appetite.

How many days are needed for Perth? While you can cover the main attractions in 3 busy days, we suggest at least 5 days to truly get a sense of the city and enjoy a day trip without feeling rushed.

What’s the best month to visit Perth? Perth is wonderful all year, but the prime time to visit is Spring (September to November). The weather is warm and lovely, and you can see the spectacular wildflowers in full bloom. Autumn (March to May) is a close second with similarly pleasant weather.
