Why We Went Quiet
We stopped putting up videos pretty abruptly about a year and a half ago, and we know a lot of you noticed. Thank you so much to everyone who’s followed this journey with us, and to those who reached out to check how we were going — that means a lot.
The short version is we had to come back for a couple of medical specialist appointments with the kids. We’ll leave the details for them to share in their own time when they’re older, but if you’re a family travelling with neurodivergent kids or kids with complex medical needs, we hear you and we see you. Travelling gives you these amazing experiences and a life that looks a little different — and we’re so glad to be getting back to it.
The New Van
Our old Maverick Viper was an awesome pop-top — if you’re ever looking for one, go see Ethan down at Maverick’s, he was fantastic to deal with. But families grow and change, and your van needs to grow with you. So this time we’ve stepped up to something a bit bigger, built around what we’ve learned actually works for us.
We went through the same questions again this time around, so if you’re just starting that process yourself, here’s how we picked ours.
First look inside: a full bathroom, a shower, and — for the first time ever — a washing machine. We measured the driveway more times than we’ll admit to make sure it would actually fit through our 90° turn into the front yard. It did, and it felt like home again the second we towed it in.
As Tim’s parents always say, after six or seven caravans of their own: you very rarely end up with your “forever van.” Families change, destinations change, even your power needs change as the kids grow up with more devices. You just work out what suits you now.

What’s Coming Next
We’ve got a list of mods and hacks we want to make on this one, and Tim will be going through the van properly on the maintenance side as we find things to pick up on and change. We’re also planning to add more content about how to actually plan a big lap, since we’re looking at doing another one ourselves and we’ve picked up a lot along the way.
We’re already working out what this next lap will cost with the new van’s numbers. Our budget planner has the same real costs, handy if you’re working out your own next steps too.
