10 Best Things to Do in Falls Creek in Winter
Falls Creek is one of our all-time favs. High up in the Victorian high country, Falls Creek in winter is a great destination. Being so easy to get to, relatively cheap compared to other resorts, and simple to get around, it’s a ski resort you need to visit.
We’ve been to Falls Creek each year for many years, returning time and again to soak in its unique alpine charm. This list is the top things we love to do while we’re enjoying the snow – for both the skiiers and non-skiiers.

Top Ski-Related Activities in Falls Creek
Falls Creek Alpine Resort is Victoria’s largest ski resort, and it’s famous for its extensive ski-in/ski-out village. Here are our top picks for making the most of the slopes.
1. Hit the Slopes (Skiing & Snowboarding)
This is the main event! Falls Creek is amazing for all skiing levels. Beginners can find their feet on gentle, wide slopes, including Australia’s longest green run, Wombat’s Ramble.
Intermediate and advanced riders will love the abundance of blue and black runs. The ski-in/ski-out village means you can easily pop back to your accommodation for a cuppa or lunch without wasting precious slope time!
2. Go Night Skiing (& See the Fireworks!)
Okay, so this is technically a skiing experience, but have you ever been down the slopes at night?!
You can head down Wombat’s Ramble at night time on most Wednesdays and Saturday evenings. It’s a must-do! If you’re not a skier, head to the base of the run, where you’ll often find a spectacular fireworks display.
3. Try Cross-Country Skiing
Falls Creek is renowned as Australia’s undisputed home of cross-country skiing. There’s an incredible network of over 65km of trails that cover the Bogong High Plains and beyond.
It’s an amazing way to see the stunning alpine wilderness and feels really peaceful to be away from the slopes. The trails start at the Nordic Bowl and open up to new off-piste terrain within the National Park.

The village itself is a vibrant hub, and there’s so much to do off the slopes. We have plenty of family members who visit with us who don’t even ski. These are the things they love doing:
4. Have a Laugh at the Snow Play Park
Tobogganing is where we spend many days now with our two young kids. There is a dedicated toboggan run at Windy Corner that’s perfect for families. You’ll find a nice cafe close by, which is perfect for grabbing a hot chocolate.
You can bring your own toboggan or hire one from one of the many shops in the village.
Our Tip: Look on Fb marketplace for second hand toboggans. It’s way cheaper, and usually you can find plently that families have only used once.
5. Eat and Drink Like Alpine Royalty
After a big day on the mountain (or just relaxing!), you’re going to be hungry and thirsty. Falls Creek has a restaurant for everyone, from sophisticated fine dining to quick, hearty bites.
However, we recommend visiting Cloud 9 at least once. It’s so unique, as it’s situated on the top of the ski slopes! You’ll need to ride the chairlift to get there, but you can buy one off passes to get to the restaurant.
6. Relax and Unwind (The Alpine Way!)
It’s not all about high speed adventure! One of the best things to do is to simply relax and soak in the atmosphere. Many lodges and apartments offer incredible amenities. Guests of these resorts can use the facilities. Here is our top selection:

7. Have a Family Games Night
If you’re staying somewhere with a games room, like Ripparoo Lodge, it’s the perfect way to spend a low-key evening with the family.
8. Cook a Feast in Your Own Kitchen
Sometimes, the best night is a quiet one in. Having a fully equipped kitchen lets you prepare your own meals and save on dining out. It’s a great, flexible option for families and groups, available at places like Elk at Falls, Cederwood Apartments, Alpine View Apartments, and Frueauf Village Apartments.
9. Build a snowman
My kids would be very disappointed if I didn’t include this activity! I’m not sure how many snowmen we built, but there are plenty of places to dig in and create snow sculptures! We even found enough snow on the balcony at St Falls to create a snowman right out the front door!
10. Ride the snow tractor
If you have a young kid like ours, the highlight of the trip is the ride on the snow tractor! Take the snow tractor – also known as the oversnow – to a different part of the ski resort to explore, or stay on for the round trip!
